Claire Clifford, a trainee counselling psychologist from Glasgow Caledonian University, is seeking to recruit participants for her doctorate research study. The study aims to explore and understand the experience of undergoing therapeutic treatment for trauma (specifically complex trauma). Research suggests that since Complex-PTSD is a newly recognised condition, it may be underdiagnosed in individuals who have experienced trauma.
Claire hopes that this study will help to start a conversation about what is meaningful in treatment for those who have experienced trauma. This will help inform future research and development of treatment within this particularly under-researched field.
What will the study involve?
Participation in the research study involves completing the International trauma Questionnaire which involves a brief questionnaire designed to assess the symptoms of Complex-PTSD. Participants may then be invited to take part in an interview about their experiences of therapy, including the perceived helpfulness of professional intervention for treatment of trauma.
What are the requirements to participate?
- Must be over the age of 18.
- Participants must have experienced complex trauma.
- Participants must have received psychological therapy.
What will the data collected in this study be used for?
All data will be completely anonymised and participants will not be identifiable. All data collected will be analysed by Claire and findings will be reported in fulfilment of the doctoral programme at Glasgow Caledonian University. Research findings may be presented to colleagues at academic conferences and the research team may seek publication of findings.
