AMIS is the only dedicated national charity in Scotland that supports men and self identifying men affected by intimate partner violence and abuse. However, there are still many other services and charities that exist that can help men in different ways.

National Support Services

  • Andys Man Club  UK men’s facilitated peer support groups with an active Scottish network Angus/Ayrshire/Dundee/Lothian/Edinburgh/Falkirk/Fife/Glasgow/Midlothian  Lanarkshire/Perth/Perth & Kinross/ West Lothian 
  • Citizens Advice Scotland -There are 59 Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB) across Scotland, offering face-to-face advice on a wide range of issues. CAB are independently run and staffed by well-trained volunteers dedicated to providing high quality, free, confidential, independent advice. Search by your postcode to find the location, opening times and contact details of your nearest CAB. Please note: Most CAB can only provide advice to residents within their local authority area.
  • Better Days for Men  Online portal with access to resources, links to other agencies and support with health & wellbeing, family & relationship, legal and general social issues 
  • Brothers In Arms Scottish Ex Services initiative for men and boys offering support offering digital tools, apps and online activities to help with mental health and well-being 
  • FearFree  domestic abuse support and information agency working with men/self-identified men in  Aberdeen (limited service)  Aberdeenshire (limited service)   East Lothian Edinburgh   Glasgow    Midlothian  West Lothian
  • LGBT Domestic Abuse Helpline – supports LGBT people affected by domestic abuse
  • Mankind Initiative – support, campaigns and advocacy for men in England and Wales who are experiencing domestic abuse (based in Somerset)
  • Men’s Advice Line – a helpline and support service for men experiencing domestic abuse (based in London)
  • Mens Alliance Northern Ireland MANi Northern Irish agency for male domestic abuse offers an online Scottish Peer Support for male victims  with a Facebook based sign up page.
  • Men Matter Glasgow based men’s peer support that also offer online support and connection to its programmes.
  • Menself Scotland wide Glasgow based) men’s health and well-being agency who will work with anyone anywhere in Scotland to help improve health and support services in being able to develop work for and with men 
  • Midspace – online mental health and wellbeing information service in Midlothian
  • Rape Crisis Scotland – for anyone who has experienced sexual abuse/sexual violence
  • Respect  UK based agency who provide men’s advice line and support (within an English Law context) and guidance in working with Male Victims of domestic abuse 
  • Scotland’s Domestic Abuse Helpline – helpline for anyone affected by Intimate Partner abuse/violence
  • Shared Parenting Scotland – support regarding children and parenting
  • Shelter Scotland – information on homelessness in Scotland
  • Strongmen   UK wide (inc. Scotland) men’s bereavement charity offering Man 2 Man Peer Support and men’s outdoor weekend events and volunteer activities (based in West Sussex)
  • Victim Support Scotland – support for anyone affected by a crime including Domestic Violence

Services by Location

Safe Spaces

Boots UK, Superdrug pharmacies, Morrisons pharmacies and independent pharmacies across the country to provide Safe Spaces in their consultation rooms for anyone experiencing domestic abuse.

These Safe Spaces offer any victims of domestic abuse to access specialist support, a space for them to phone a helpline, contact a support service or a friend or family member.

Consultation rooms will provide information on how to access specialist domestic abuse services.
