The purpose of the day is to promote and celebrate the achievements of men and boys (and this could be related to fathers, stepfathers, uncles, husbands, brothers, sons, grandsons, nephews, partners, friends and colleagues). https://ukmensday.org.uk                                                              The UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Issues Affecting Men and Boys was formed in March 2021. The APPG believes there needs to be concerted action from the government and policymakers in tackling a range of disadvantages boys and young men face in Britain today and this can be overlooked in education, employment training and support with issues like mental health, domestic abuse and homelessness.

The Report, A Boy Today may be downloaded here. The UK Men and Boys Coalition is a network of academics, journalists, professionals, organisations and leaders committed to highlighting and taking action on the gender-specific issues that affect men and boys. They undertake research and raise awareness of issues often under the radar of mainstream debate and public discourse.

Scotland does not yet have a cross-party group on men and boys’ issues, but it is likely that the UK group’s findings apply to men and boys in Scotland too.

“If we are to live in a fully inclusive country, we need to address the disadvantages that men and boys face alongside the need to address the disadvantages women and girls face. We all live in our society together – boys are sons, brothers and future husbands, partners, dads and work colleagues. Resolving the issues boys face today means a better society for all, now and in the future.” (Nick Fletcher MP (Don Valley), Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Issues Affecting Men and Boys)
