TheTinMen has become an award-winning centre point for discussion around dozens of issues impacting men and boys, particularly domestic abuse, and sexual violence; sharing infographics, reports, research, interviews, and personal testimony, to help raise awareness and advocate for male victims across the world.

TheTinMen is also home to a podcast that has featured world leading voices within family violence; including Erin Pizzey CBE, Mark Brooks OBE, Professor Don Dutton, Duncan Craig OBE, Ally Fogg, Lisa Britton, Professor Nicola Graham Kevan and Dr Warren Farrell, as well as other leading figures in the wider men’s health space, like Richard Reeves, Dr James Nuzzo, Mary Curnock Cook CBE, Dr Susie Bennett, and Jordan Stephens.

With his content now reaching millions of users every month, George has also appeared on various national news and radio shows, mainstream podcasts, and festivals, and has consulted with universities, healthcare providers, and workplaces to help them better understand men’s experiences of abuse, mental health, and suicide.

Outside of TheTinMen, during his career, George has set up and run various creative studios, specialising in moving image and storytelling and has worked directly with large,world-leading brands, to help them better communicate with their customers.

Mark is delighted to have joined the board of Abused Men in Scotland as a Trustee, and is committed to using his experience to help further the vital work this organisation does for men and families across Scotland.

Mark brings over 21 years of senior leadership experience in financial services, having held a number of senior roles at Lloyds Banking Group before moving into the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector, where he now serves as Vice President at Firstsource Solutions — working in partnership with some of the UK’s leading tier 1 banks and building societies. This breadth of experience inside a major lender and as a strategic partner to multiple financial institutions gives Mark continued visibility of how the industry is evolving its approach to customer vulnerability, financial inclusion and safeguarding.

Perhaps most relevant to his role at AMIS is the work Mark has led with some of the most vulnerable customers in the banking system. At Lloyds Banking Group, he had the privilege of leading the Domestic and Financial Abuse team — a specialist function dedicated to identifying, supporting and safeguarding customers experiencing abuse, including economic abuse. This work gave him a deep understanding of the intersection between financial control, coercive behaviour and the very real harm it causes to individuals and families. During this time, Mark had the opportunity to meet with Lucy Rigby — now Chief Secretary to the Treasury — to discuss the reforms needed across the banking industry to better identify and respond to economic abuse, a conversation that reinforced his belief that systemic change is both necessary and achievable.

Away from financial services, Mark previously served as a Trustee and Vice Chair at Dads Rock, a Scottish charity supporting fathers and their children. That experience gave him a strong foundation in charity governance, board leadership and the importance of community-based support for men and families — values that align closely with the mission of AMIS.

Mark is proud to stand alongside the team at AMIS and looks forward to contributing to an organisation that gives voice, support and dignity to those who too often suffer in silence.

We’re delighted to welcome Alannah Norton to the Board of Trustees.

Alannah is new to the Trustee role and became involved with AMIS after seeing the opportunity online and recognising how closely it aligned with both her professional skills and personal values. Growing up with three brothers, Alannah has a strong appreciation for the importance of support services for men, and is deeply committed to contributing to improving outcomes for men’s health and wellbeing across Scotland.

Professionally, Alannah works as a Marketing Manager in the utilities sector and brings over a decade of experience in communications, with a strong specialism in digital and public sector communications. Prior to her current role, she spent more than eight years working across the Scottish Government, building a solid understanding of strategic, accessible, and purpose-driven communications. Career highlights include completing the CIPR Specialist Diploma in Digital Communications during the COVID-19 pandemic while working full-time, achieving a high pass mark.

Alongside her professional work, Alannah recently launched a small creative business designing and selling handmade greetings cards, reflecting a genuine passion for creativity and storytelling. She strongly believes in the power of using great communication to design engaging, meaningful content that serves a clear purpose and creates real impact. As a Trustee, Alannah is particularly interested in supporting AMIS’s digital communications at a strategic level – including social media – and is motivated by a wider commitment to helping people, understanding individual backgrounds, and contributing to positive change.

We’re delighted to welcome Hamish Wyllie as the newest member of the AMIS Board of Trustees.

Hamish originally trained as an actor at one of London’s top drama schools before moving into the world of coaching, counselling, and psychology. His journey with AMIS began during the height of the first COVID-19 lockdown, when he volunteered on our helpline, later stepping into a full-time support role in early 2021. Over his time with us, Hamish supported over 100 men with a range of issues, demonstrating compassion, insight, and a deep commitment to those affected by domestic abuse.

While at AMIS, Hamish’s work extended far beyond frontline support – from writing client reports in line with the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 to representing clients at MARAC meetings to helping with volunteer training and support. Since leaving AMIS in early 2022, Hamish has now returned in a governance role, bringing his experience full circle – as a former volunteer, staff member, and now Trustee.

Professionally, Hamish operates a diverse portfolio career across coaching, psychology, drama-based learning, and professional voiceover work (you may even hear him as a Welsh cow or Northern Irish cabbage on CBeebies!). His expertise lies in helping individuals navigate complex conversations, build self-awareness, and fine-tune their communication skills.

He holds an ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching, is accredited by the Association for Coaching (AC), and holds a Master’s degree in psychology with graduate basis for chartership with the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS). Hamish also supported neurodivergent individuals – including those with ADHD – through coaching roles with Psychiatry UK and previously with Exceptional Individuals.

With a strong track record in the medical and legal sectors, Hamish uses immersive techniques like forum theatre and character hot-seating to train professionals in real-time communication and empathy-building.

We are thrilled to have Hamish’s insight and passion for human behaviour helping to guide AMIS at a strategic level. His background makes him uniquely placed to support the development of our training for staff and volunteers, ensuring our work remains compassionate, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of those we support.

Hamish has already hit the ground running. In his first few days as Trustee, he delivered a powerful session to our team titled “The Psychology of a Support Worker”. Covering themes such as the purpose of volunteering, compassion fatigue, the dynamics of directive vs non-directive support, and the psychological payoffs of helpline work, he left us with several key takeaways:

Be aware of your position in the Drama Triangle

It’s okay not to have all the answers – holding space is powerful

Debrief – don’t internalise

Stay curious, always

This session offered just a glimpse into the wealth of knowledge Hamish brings to AMIS, and we’re incredibly excited to have him onboard.

If you have any questions or want to get in touch with Hamish as an AMIS Trustee you can email Hamish@amis.org.uk. Alternatively get in touch with our office.
